Nguyen Viet Thanh

Nguyen Viet Thanh

Lieutenant General Nguyễn Viết Thanh (1931–1970) was born in Da Lat, Vietnam.

General Thanh served in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and was assigned as Commander of IV Corps, 7th Division.

During the Tet Offensive, Vietcong troops took General Thanh and his family prisoner in an attempt to pressure his unit the 7th Division to lay down their weapons, but their plan failed and he and his family were released.

In May 1970, General Thanh was tasked to lead unit IV Corp into Cambodia to support General Do Cao Tri, but his plane collided with a U.S. Cobra in the interior of Cambodia and he was killed.
