Saint Xavier University (SXU), is a
coeducational institution of higher learning located in the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois. The university currently enrolls over 5,000 students and is known for its undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, business, and education. The university is especially known for its exceptional nursing program and overall stellar students.
The University was founded by the
Sisters of Mercyin 1846at the request of Bishop William Quarter. It was originally named Saint Francis XavierFemale Academy, later renamed Saint Xavier College, and in 1992, officially became a university.
Academic schools and departments
There are five major schools at Saint Xavier:

* The School of Continuing and Professional Studies
* The School of Education
* The Graham School of Management
* The School of Nursing
Saint Xavier's convert|109|acre|km2 main campus is located in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago, on the corner of 103rd Street and Central Park Avenue. It is a part of a Catholic school campus, sharing land with Mother McAuley and Brother Rice high schools. It is also located across the street from Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church and grammar school, which lie east of Central Park.
The university's main campus [ [http://www.sxu.edu/SharedDocuments/ABO-Chicago/ChicagoCampusMap.pdf Campus map] ] is made up of several buildings, including the Warde Academic Center, which is the oldest building on campus and houses administrative offices, the Shannon Center, McDonough Chapel, a large Catholic
chapel, the Graham School of Management Building, Andrew Conference Center, Driehaus Center, Pulaski Center, Byrne Memorial Library and six dormitories.
Saint Xavier also has a campus located in Orland Park.
The school's sports teams compete in the NAIA
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference(CCAC) as the Cougars.
