Paduru Gururaja Bhat
© padurugururajabhatmemorialtrustBorn 1924 Died 1978 Occupation Historian, Academician, Professor, Author Dr. Paduru Gururaja Bhat (1924-1978[1]) was a teacher and pioneering historian[2] and archaeologist[3] of Tulu Nadu, and of Barkur, the ancient capital of the Tulu kingdom.[4] He was born in the Paduru village of Udupi district, Karnataka.[1]
Bhat graduated from the University of Madras in 1952, received a Masters Degree in History from the Banaras Hindu University in 1956, and received a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Mysore in 1968.[1] His thesis was entitled A Political and Cultural History of Tulu-nadu from the earliest times up to AD 1600.[3]
Bhat taught at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College in Udupi,[1] and was the founder-principal of the The Milagres College, Kallianpur, from 1967 to 1976.[5]

Another book, Temples of Dakshina Kannada, was started by P Gururaj Bhat, but was suspended for a long time after his death. The project was later completed by Prof. Muralidhara Upadhya and Dr. P N Narasimhamurthy.[7]
