Miami Norland Senior High School is a secondary school located at 1050 NW 195th St in the Norwood neighborhood of Miami Gardens, Florida, USA. Its principal is Dr. Mark Soffian.

Miami Norland's colors are maroon and gray. The school mascot is the Viking. Prior to the erection of nearby Michael Krop Senior High, Norland was the northernmost school in Dade County. The school's name reflects this fact.

History

In 1958, the school took in its first 350 students.

In 1998, the school was rocked by a student riot that was featured on news networks such as CNN and Fox News. The incident was supposed to be a student protest against strict administrative changes such as student newspaper limitations and an off-campus lunch ban. The event became disorganized and eventually resulted in outright student rebellion. As a result of the incident, Principal Carroll Williams was fired. Mr. Turner became the new school principal but has since left the school. Dr. Soffian now leads the school.

This school was given grade F by the Florida Department of Education in 2006-2007. In 2004-2005, the school received a D. In 2005-2006, Norland once again received a D. [ [http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/achievement/fl/802 Miami Norland Senior High School Test Scores - Miami, Florida - FL ] ]
