Mamta Baruah Herland

Mamta Baruah Herland is a painter and digital artist born in Assam, north east India, now living just outside Oslo, Norway. She has studied Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts in Australia, Graphic Design in Oslo and has her Masters degree in Fine Art — Painting from Winchester School of Art, England. Mamta has exhibited internationally, among them galleries in New York, London, Madrid, Barcelona and Ferrara, Italy. She participated in the International Biennale of Art in Florence (Firenze) in December 2005. In addition to private collectors, her works are acquired by commercial companies, communities in Norway and England and by The Norwegian Council of Cultural Affair (Norsk Kulturråd).

In relevance to Mamta’s digital art she has written the thesis ['The impact of Giclée][1]. A shift towards digital print in future art.' and 'Internet & World Wide Web — [Consequences @ Fine Art][2]' discussing the influence and acceptance of digital technology in the international art world. Through the thesis and some of her digital works Mamta questions how the digital revolution will influence visual arts, among them the concept of authenticity, originality, limited editions and how art available through the World Wide Web will influence the traditional museums and galleries.

Mamta Baruah Herland is a member of The Association of Norwegian Visual Artists (NBK, Norske Billedkunstnere),The Association of Norwegian Painters (LNM, Landsforeningen Norske Malere), Visual Artists Organisation in Oslo and Akershus, (BOA,Billedkunstnerne i Oslo og Akershus, BOA board member 2005 - 07) and Painters Association in Bærum (BKiB, Bildende Kunstnere i Bærum).
