Australian amateur association football club based in the south-eastMelbourne suburb of Clayton,Australia . The club is also known, unofficially, as AEK Waverley or Waverley Wanderers AEK.The club currently competes in the Victorian State League Division 2 South-East.
History
Formed as Waverley Wanderers Soccer Club in 1980 by
Melbourne 's Greek community (more specifically, supporters ofGreece 'sAEK Athens FC , hence the "AEK" moniker and club colours of yellow and black), the club began competing in the lower tiers of Victoria's State Leagues.A recent surge in on-field success (season 2004 and 2005 championships) allowed the club to gain a double-promotion and reach the Victorian State League Division 2 SE in 2006, where it currently competes.
Waverley Wanderers FC boast a large player base with well over 200 registered footballers, including junior teams and women's teams (in addition to the senior men's teams).
