Janet Elsdon Mackey (nee Craig, born
June 14 ,1953 - ) is aNew Zealand politician . She is a member of the Labour Party. Her father, Elsdon Craig, is a Scottish-New Zealander, and the nephew ofElsdon Best , and her mother, Zeta Brown, is from Northern Ireland.She was first elected to Parliament in the 1993 elections, winning the seat of Gisborne. In the 1996 elections, she won the newly created seat of Mahia, and in the 1999 elections and 2002 elections, she won the seat of East Coast. In 2003, she was joined in Parliament by her daughter,
Moana Mackey . Before entering politics, she was areal estate agent . She is aJustice of the Peace .She announced her intent to retire before the 2005 elections, and did not stand for re-election.
She has two other children whom are all younger than Moana. Erin Wahine Waimarie (
December 4 ,1979 ) who is achef , and Turei Elsdon (December 20 ,1982 ).She was married to lawyer and father of all three of her children, John Mackey until separating in 1993. Janet is currently in a relationship with
First Light Construction owner,Robb Noble .Janet currently co-owns a restaurant in Gisborne called
