- East European Plain
The East European Plain (also "Russian Plain") is a
plain comprised of a series of river basins inEastern Europe . Together with theNorthern European Plain it constitutes theEuropean Plain . It is the largest mountain-free part of the Europeanlandscape .The plain spans approximately convert|1544408|sqmi|km2|1 and averages about convert|170|m|ft|1 in elevation. The highest point of the plain, located in the Valday Hills is convert|1125|ft|km|1.
Within the territory of
Imperial Russia andSoviet Union it has been known as the Russian Plain (Russian: "Русская равнина"), transliterated as Russkaya Ravnina). Both names are often used interchangeably.Boundaries
