2018 Asian Games

The 2018 Asian Games (also known as the "XVIII Asiad") is the largest sporting event in Asia and is governed by Olympic Council of Asia. The selection process is yet to begin, however several countries already announced their interest in bidding this Games.

Afterbowed out in favour of India for the 2014 Asian Games, Vietnam is set to place a bid to host the 2018 event in Hanoi. Nguyen Hong Minh, vice president of Vietnam Olympic Committee said that they have credibility in hosting the large events after the successful organisation of the 2003 Southeast Asian Games and also the APEC meeting in November 2006. Vietnam will also host the 2009 Asian Indoor Games in Hanoi. Minh added the difference of 11 years between 2007 - when Hanoi announced its intention to bid - and 2018 will allow for much improvement of Vietnam's sport facilities and infrastructure. The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) plans to bid for the 2018 Asian Games in the capital city of Manila. The country was the host of 1954 Asian Games and has successfully hosted the Southeast Asian Games on 3 occasions - in 1981, 1991 and 2005. The country will host again in 2019. The Singapore Sports Council is considering bidding to host the 2018 Asian Games following the establishment of the Singapore Grand Prix and the city state's securing of the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, the inaugural edition of these games. Singapore will also host the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, whilst the city is developing a world-class Sports Hub which expected to be open in 2011. President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah stated that Dubai is considering placing a bid for the 2018 edition of the games. Previously, Dubai was to bid for the 2014 event, however they withdrew because they did not see it as a priority.
