List of York City F.C. managers

York City Football Club is an English association football club based in York, North Yorkshire and currently play in the Conference National. They appointed Jock Collier as their first official manager in July 1928. Collier initially joined the club as player-manager, but was forced to retire from playing due to a broken ankle. He left the club in May 1930 and managerial duties were carried out by club secretary George Sherrington. Collier, however, was re-appointed as manager in 1933, helping the club establish themselves in the Football League. [cite book

The club had failed to win any honours until the 1983–84 season, when, under the management of Denis Smith, the club won the Football League Fourth Division with a record 101 points. [cite book

pages = p133 ] York won the Football League Third Division play-offs in the 1992–93 season and in the following season were beaten in the play-off semi-final of the Football League Second Division. John Ward managed York for the majority of the 1992–93 season, but Alan Little took over in March 1993 and managed the team in their play-off semi-final appearance the following season.cite web
