G2 Guitar Effects Pedal

G2 Guitar Effects Pedal

The Zoom G2 Guitar Effects Pedal is a multi-effects Guitar Processor, manufactured by Zoom Corporation. It was released in 2005 as a follow-up to the highly successful "Zoom 505 Processor". According to industry estimates, the Zoom G2 has been quite successful and was the highest selling low-end multi-effects processor for sometime, dethroning it's closest rival, the Digitech RP50 Pedal. However, its sales have since dropped, as newer pedals like the G2.1u (which is the G2's successor) and the DigiTech RP100 have been released.

Features

The G2 contains many features, not previously seen in any multi-effects processor, as well as some renewed features. The pedal contains a built-in drum machine with 40 rhythms, including the metronome. The internal processing is 32 bit. G2 also has the newly developed ZFX-3 chip and 32-bit architecture. There is also a built-in digital tuner for guitars. There are two foot-switches for easy shifting of patches.

Effects

There are 40 permanent preset effects and 40 slots for user patches. The presets include the punk sound, the 80s metal sound, the extreme distortion, the fuzzy British guitar sound, the clean sound and others. There are nine effect modules - COMP, WAH/EFX, ZNR, DRIVE, EQ, EXTRA EQ/CABI MIC, MOD/SFX, DELAY and REVERB. These modules contain varying number of patches. Many popular effects are included viz. pitch shifter, Harmonizer, pedal pitch, chorus, vibrato, delay, ms drive, slow attack, ring modulator, gate, auto wah, tremolo, phaser, multitap delay, echo, spring reflex and flanger. The Distortion Drives too contain many popular effects including Metal Zone, Hot Box, Digi Fuzz, Extreme Distortion, Overdrive, Guv'Nor, Fuzz Face, BG Crunch and PV Drive.

Controls

There are three control knobs for the G2. The controls vary according to the modules. The controls include Sense, Attack, Level, Wave, Rate, Depth, Drive, Tone, Range, Frequency, Threshold, Gain, Shift, Time, Amount, Feedback, Decay, Pattern, Mix, Scale, Key and Mode. For the Play (Preset) mode, the controls are Pattern, Tempo and Mix. Apart from these controls, there are two footswitches as well.
