ReachMD is a channel on XM Satellite Radio intended for medical and health care professionals. It launched on 2007-03-26. Programming will be broadcast in 15 minute increments, similar to the format of the proposed Regional News & Talk channels that were never launched. Programming is in 12 hour block and is shifted two hours earlier each day, except on Sunday where it is shifted one hour, for the programming week for maximum exposure.

The concept of ReachMD was created by OB/GYN Dr. David Preskill [cite press release |publisher=PRNewswire |date=2007-02-20 |url=http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/02-20-2007/0004530467&EDATE |title=ReachMD to Create 24/7 Channel for Healthcare Professionals
accessdate=2007-09-25
] . The channel is being brought to XM in cooperation with Premiere Radio Networks.

On 2007-09-24, ReachMD was moved from channel 233 to channel 157.

Format

ReachMD has a series of pre-recorded programs that are less than 15 minutes in length. These programs air for a twelve hour period, and are then repeated over the next twelve. These programs, or episodes, are part of a series produced by the channel. During this twelve-hour period, there are a total of forty-eight different episodes aired. The bottom of every half hour features ReachMD News highlighting current medical news. The bottom of every hour also features national news spots from 700 WLW, which are also played on Extreme XM, America's Talk, and Talk Radio. The channel's original content is produced by the ReachMD headquarters at Phase Recording Studios in Highland Park, Illinois, which is sent to the Clear Channel broadcast facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, where it is assembled and broadcast.

Disclaimer

ReachMD repeatedly stresses that the channel is made exclusively for medical professionals, and not consumers. The channel even runs a disclaimer every hour between programs reiterating this, and even instructs any consumers listening to go elsewhere for their information (or, if they choose to listen to ReachMD, to not rely on ReachMD programming as medical advice, and to always seek direct personal consultation with, and/or assistance from, a qualified healthcare professional). The channel also requires a user to enter their medical profession information when registering an account on its website.
