webcast = [http://216.68.73.134/stream67 Listen Live]KISS (also branded as KISS XM and KISS 21) is a commercial radio channel on XM Satellite Radio. It is located on XM21 and plays the chart hits from 1999 to the present, with the hottest hits of today with dance remixes of popular songs mixed in. The channel is programmed out of
Cincinnati, Ohio . Advertising sales are handled byPremiere Radio Networks ."History
KIIS/KVVS (2001-2003)
As part of an investment deal with
Clear Channel Communications , XM agreed to simulcast some of Clear Channel's FM radio stations until they were able to afford their own programming. KISS was one of those channels, and it simulcastedKIIS /KVVS inLos Angeles, California . The station was titled KIIS FM (pronounced Kiss), similar to Clear Channel's chain of KISS-FM stations around the country. Due to low subscription count at the time, the audience" didn't concern themselves with the Los Angeles locality of the station.KISS XM (2003-)
On December 1, 2003, the KIIS simulcast was dropped and KISS developed its own identity under the KISS-XM name. The station was now on autopilot 24/7 with no jocks but was programmed by Kevin Kash of
Washington, DC 's WWDC. A month later, KISS, in addition to all XM music channels, went commercial free, making the station auto-piloted 24/7 by music.By February 2004,
KIIS-FM andPremiere Radio Networks disc jockeyRick Dees was returned to the channel with both his "Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40" and "Rick Dees in the Morning" shows, thus restoring the morning portion of the old KIIS simulcast. This would be short lived, as only a few months later Clear Channel announced Rick Dees would no longer be working for the company. With that, KISS XM went jockless once again. Older Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 shows are played on XM's top 40 channelXM Hitlist , as are new episodes of the top 40 countdown program, now syndicated byDial Global .In March 2006, according to a 10-k filing, XM Satellite Radio mentioned that Clear Channel programmed music on XM would begin carrying commercials, including KISS. This has been done to fulfill an [http://yahoo.brand.edgar-online.com/fetchFilingFrameset.aspx?dcn=0001193125-06-044177&Type=HTML arbitration settlement] between XM and Clear Channel. In response to this,
XM Canada ,DirecTV andAOL Radio removed this channel on 4/17/06 in favor of XM's commercial free equivalent. KISS now displays a "cm" next to its name on the XM unit's pad data to indicate that it is a commercial radio station. For a short period of time, KISS did not display song information on the XM unit's pad. Originally, Clear Channel opted to have static pad data on all of its channels, but due to complaints they acquired the hardware to properly display individual track information on the units. On Wednesday, June 11, 2008, KISS 21 became more entertainment content-oriented by debuting an airstaff featuring
discjockey s from various Clear Clear Channel CHR (Top 40) stations around the country. Each shift's duration is 2 hours starting at 8am eastern, with 4am-8am jockless. Current DJs are listed below. cite web |title=In Brief - June 11, 2008 |url=http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=742447|accessdate = 2008-06-11 |date=2008-06-11 ]Personalities
