- Piano Concerto No. 5 (Mozart)
The Piano Concerto No. 5 in D Major, K. 175, was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1773, when he was 17. It is scored for two oboes, two horns, two trumpets, timpani and strings, and was the only concerto with trumpet and timpani until No. 13, K. 415.
The work is in three movements:
*I. Allegro
*II. Andante ma un poco adagio
*III. Allegro
The Rondo in D major for piano and orchestra, K. 382 was later written as an alternate finale for this concerto.
This concerto was a favorite of Mozart's and is mentioned frequently in many of his letters. [Hutchings (see references), p. 49-50.] . He played the piece at concerts until the year of his death.
