- Matteo Trefoloni
-
Matteo Simone Trefoloni is a top Italian football referee, who has refereed many UEFA Cup matches in recent years. He became well known to Scottish football fans when he controversially sent Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor off in a UEFA Cup against Hapoel Tel Aviv played on 22 February 2007.[1]
Trefoloni returned to Scotland on 17 September 2008 to take charge of the match between Celtic and Aalborg in the UEFA Champions League. He once again courted controversy, when he sent off Aalborg defender Michael Beauchamp, despite the Australian not being the culprit of the foul that had been awarded. Trefoloni consequently was demoted from the Elite to the Premier category by UEFA.
