(2001)"Yesterday Went Too Soon" is the second full-length
album by the British Rock/Pop band Feeder. It was released onAugust 30 , 1999 on The Echo Label. The album entered the UK charts at #8, after a decent amount of critical success. The title track gave them their first top 20 single, and would in total give the band 4 top 50 hits. It's critical and cult appeal including slots on
Top of the Pops for the first time, enabled the album to aid the bands breakthrough which was completed on the follow-up "Echo Park".The album gained a Silver certification in April 2001, shortly before the release of breakthrough album "Echo Park", [ [http://www.feederweb.com/band FeederWeb] ] and then went Gold in March 2003 after the extended commercial recognition of "
Comfort In Sound ". [ [http://www.bpi.co.uk BPI searchable database] ]Despite the band's American breakthrough with single "High" and extensive touring in the States, "Yesterday Went Too Soon" was never released in the US. Promotional copies of the album were released by the band's former US label Elektra, but they would ultimately turn down the album for distribution.
Reception
The albums chart entry of #8, was seen as an unexpected chart placing as many fans thought the album would make the top fifteen and would give the band a respectable chart placing for the album, considering that at the time the band were yet to break into the mainstream, and only had small amounts of play on Radio 1, including a series of moderately-sized top 40 singles in the run up to the albums release. Two years later the album moved into silver sales territory of 60,000 sales in the UK, due to the bands breakthrough aided by the "Buck Rogers" single. Two more years later the album went into gold sales status, with 100,000 copies sold due to the extended commercial recognition of "
Comfort in Sound " at the time. Background
The album was written and recorded during and before the bands US tour of 1998. Before they left the UK, some demos were recorded with a few completed into final recordings, with some of these featuring on their single "Suffocate" as B-sides. "Dry" on CD2 of the single was later made into a full band version, as opposed to the acoustic recording found on the single.
There were plans to make this a double album, as a total of at least thirty songs were recorded with a view of appearing on the album. When recording was wrapped with the tracklist organised, the albums release was delayed as frontman
Grant Nicholas wrote and recorded more songs with the band afterwards, with the band feeling they were too good to leave off the record.Accolades
