Larissos or Larisos, rare name and older name: Riolitiko is a river in the western part of the Achaia prefecture.

Geography

It begins in the Skollis mountains (also Skolli) and empties into Cape Araxos, it flows west of Mataragka,, west of Riolos east of Kagkadi, east of Apiedona and 1 km east of the centre of Lappa and east of the road linking to Araxos and the Araxos Airport (military and non-military) and into Cape Araxos via the Pappa Lagoon. It empties into the Ionian Sea and the Gulf of Patras.

About the river

In Antiquity it was the boundary between Achaea and Elis. Near the river features ancient cities including Dyme and (together with Strabo, Larissa. During the mythological period, Hercules drank the waters and took it to clean the Aegean stables. From the river brought the name to the modern municipality of Larissos
