Laser eye surgery in the UK is dominated by three main companies Optical Express, Ultralase and Optimax which, in total, account for approximately 56% of clinics in the UK.[2]
History
Optimax was founded by Russell Ambrose in 1991 and he was also the clinic’s first patient.[3] Optimax were the first company to introduce Femtosecond laser IntraLASIK nationwide.[4]
A direct mail advertisement by Optimax which claimed ‘we're the UK's number one Laser Eye Surgery specialists’ was banned by the ASA in September 2011. The complaint was made by competitor Optical Express.[5]
