- Brampton, Norfolk
Brampton is a small village and parish in the county of
Norfolk ,England , in the Bure Valley, east ofAylsham .It is an intermediate halt on the
Bure Valley Railway .Its church, St Peter, is one of 124 existing
round-tower church es inNorfolk .Although now one of the smallest communities in Norfolk it has a rich history. In particular it was the site of a Roman manufacturing centre from where goods were exported by boat along the river Bure. In excavations in the 1960s evidence of a bath house was found along with many kilns.
The village sign reflects the Roman past and depicts a double-headed fish copied from a Roman brooch found some years ago that can now be seen in the Norwich museum. The village sign depicts the name Bramtuna to reflect its history.
