Brampton Gurdon (of Assington and Letton)

Brampton Gurdon (of Assington and Letton)

Brampton Gurdon (died 1649), of Assington in Suffolk and Letton in Norfolk, was an English country gentleman and Member of Parliament (MP). The son of John Gurdon (died 1623), MP for Sudbury and High Sheriff of Suffolk, Brampton Gurdon was also MP for Sudbury in the Parliament of 1621 and High Sheriff of Suffolk in 1629.

He married twice, and divided his estates between his two sons: John (1595-1679), the oldest, who was MP for several constituencies during the Civil War period and a member of the Council of State succeeded him at Assington; Letton passed to John's half-brother, Brampton, who was a cavalry colonel on the Parliamentary side during the Civil War and later also MP for Sudbury.
