The road is bitumened from south ofBeagle Bay to the northern towns and the southern section near is generally closed in the wet season as it becomes impassable due to flooding. When the road between Broome and Beagle Bay is open it is generally maintained poorly and is quite corrugated.The road is vital for servicing communities on the Dampier Peninsula and is also a popular tourist attraction.
