Isoma Karyon

Isoma Karyon

Isoma Karyon or Isoma Karion (Greek: Ίσωμα Καρυών) is a Greek village located approximately 10 km west-northwest (old; 10 km) from Megalopoli as well as from the non-freeway standard of GR-7/E65 (Kalamata - Megalopoli - Tripoli) otherwise known as the old road. Isoma Karyon belongs to the municipality of Megalopoli. Isoma Karyon is connected to a road linking Kyparissia, Thoknia and the major town of Megalopoli.

History

The population reached its peak in the early to mid-20th century. Since the mid-20th century, the population has been declining , particularly after the two conflicts, the World War II and the Greek Civil War as people left the village for a better life in other parts of Greece and in other parts of the world (mainly North America). The pace of the population's decline rarely slowed in the late-20th century. According to the 1981 and 1991 census, the village's population showed an upward short-lived trend, returning to the constant declining level (the majority of the population are mainly over 50 years old).
