Apiditsa

Apiditsa (Greek: Απιδίτσα) is a Greek settlement located around 10 km west-northwest (old: 6 km) from Megalopoli as about 4 km from the nearest interchange with the GR-7/E65 (Kalamata - Megalopoli - Tripoli) or the old road. Isoma Karyon is also in the municipal district of Choremi and the municipality of Megalopoli. Isoma Karyon is connected with a road linking The GR-7 west-northwest of Veligotsi and Vasta. It also serves a road to Kalyvia Karyon in which it connects with a road linking Megalopoli and Lykosura.

Geography

Apiditsa is situated less than 1 km west of one of the Peloponnese's major river, the Alfeios (Alpheus) and features two other streams to the northwest. The geography consists of farmlands that are mainly groves and pastures with fruits and vegetables and other crops that cover the east and north as well as forests around the area covering over 60 to 70% of the area. The Lykaio mountain lies to the west.

History

The highest recorded population were in the early to mid-20th century, the population has been falling since the mid-20th century, particularly after the two conflicts, the World War II and the Greek Civil War as people went for a better livestyle and jobs elsewhere in Greece and the other parts of the world (mainly North America), its decline has rarely slowed in the late-20th century. The census between 1991 and 2001 saw a sharp decline that it nearly reduced the population by half, its median age will rise above 50 and 60, the younger generation only visit Apiditsa making it a summer area along with Choremi and the area.

Apiditsa has a church, and a square ("plateia"), its nearest school and lyceum (middle school) and gymnasium (secondary school) are in Choremi and Isari.
