"Babo Violent 2" is a freeware multiplayer game for Windows. It is a 3d Top-down shooter similar to "Crimsonland", combined with elements from "Counter-Strike" and "Quake3".

Gameplay

In "Babo Violent 2", the player controls a heavily armed sphere with customizable skin color and texture, known as a "Babo". The game is played over the Internet or a LAN. There are a variety of game modes to choose from, ranging from the popular free-for-all (Deathmatch) to the team-based (Capture the Flag). In some modes holding or defending a flag is the primary goal, where in others it is simply to obtain the most frags.

For all game modes, the basic objective is to kill enemy players. Before spawning, the player is presented with a large arsenal of weapons to choose from. A few grenades and a molotov cocktail are also supplied by default and more grenades can be picked up from the ground. Some servers enable secondary functions like knives, shields or nuclear kamikaze attacks. Upon death players leave behind a health pack for healing injury, the weapon and any equipped grenades for others to pick up. After waiting for a server-specified amount of time (usually less than five seconds), players respawn and may choose another weapon—this cycle repeats for the duration of the map. After a certain allotted time (usually 15 minutes), the map changes and scores are reset as players continue in another round. Players can chat with each other throughout matches (and to their own teams, for cooperative team-based game modes).

Most games are fast-paced and chaotic. Babos explode in a spectacle of blood.

History

The game was originally developed as a test for a new network library by David St-Louis and Marc Durocher. Released only to get some feedback on the stability, the simple yet addictive gameplay attracted a growing fan base. Soon a community of hundreds of regulars and thousands of casual players formed organized clans (called squads) and developed unofficial mods and additional content packs.

Surprised by the unexpected success, the developers agreed to continue developing the game. However, its origin as a simple test caused some problems and a major rework was required.

There are currently eight primary weapons officially available:
* Sub Machine Gun
* Shotgun
* Sniper Rifle
* Dual Machine Gun
* Chain Gun
* Bazooka
* Photon Rifle
* Flamethrower

econdary Weapons

Evening out the aresenal all players are equipped with the following:
* Grenades (2)
* Molotov cocktail Players also get to choose one of the following:
* Shields
* Popup knives
* Kamikaze nuke

Tactics

Although the tactics commonly used in similar games translate well to Babo Violent 2, there are particular aspects that let players improve considerably.
* Newbies often resort to spamming while camping in a corner. Grenades can often be an effective countermeasure.
* A slight lull in combat can be a good moment to reload a shotgun. For lack of a reload button this can be accomplished by picking up a new shotgun from the ground, or using the remaining rounds.
* The tangential attachment of guns allows taking cover behind corners while shooting.
* Lacking the possibility of height advantage, sniping is most effective on small open maps.

quads

Within the central community of Baboviolent lie multiple squads built up of old and new players. Currently, a new ladder has been established by an esteemed member of the community, all are welcome to join.
