Saba University School of Medicine is a
medical schoollocated on the Caribbean islandof Sabain the Netherlands Antilles.
Saba University School of Medicine began in 1986 as a combined project between the island government of Saba and a group of medical educators from the
United States. This medical consortium spent several years examining medical school curricula throughout the United States and Europebefore adopting a basic science and clinical curriculum comparable to some of the finest medical schools. Saba University was approved by the Federal Government of the Netherlands Antilles in 1988 and an official charter was granted in 1989.
Saba University School of Medicine was established to provide a comprehensive basic science and clinical medicine education leading to completion of a
Doctor of Medicinedegree. Enrollment is open to all persons regardless of race, nationality, religion, sex, or age, who have achieved exceptional academic results, have a broad variety of extracurricular involvement, have a demonstrated desire to be compassionate caregivers and who wish to devote the extensive time and effort necessary to study and practice medicine.
Accreditation and Licensure
Saba University School of Medicine is accredited by the governments of Saba and the Netherlands Antilles. Saba is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM)Fact|date=October 2007, an independent organization based in Ireland that accredits medical schools on behalf of several governments, including the governments of Saba and the Netherlands Antilles.
US Department of Education's National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) reviewed the ACCM and determined that the standards used to accredit SABA were comparable to the standards used to accredit medical schools in the United States.
