- Tomoka River
The Tomoka River is a
north -flowingriver in Volusia County,Florida ,United States . It drains an area of about 150 square miles and is the longest river in Volusia County excluding theSt. Johns River , with a length of 18 miles (30 killometers).The Tomoka rises in the forests near Daytona Beach at an elevation of 23 feet. The river then flows north-northeast, passing through the cities Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach until it empties into the
Halifax River . Near its mouth the river passes through theTomoka Marsh Aquatic Preserve andTomoka State Park .The river and several of its tributaries (Strickland, Thomson and Dodson Creek) are designated as a
Manatee Sanctuary. Other rare species that inhabit the river basin include include thewood stork ,bald eagle , and Atlantic salt marsh snake.Seven bridges cross the river. They are:
