enrollment_as_of=Eden High School is an alternative secondary school in
St. Catharines, Ontario ,Canada . It provides education from a Christian perspective. However, it remains publicly funded and is fully integrated with theDistrict School Board of Niagara (DSBN).Facilities
Eden shares its campus with Lakeport Secondary School and the DSBN's Lifetime Learning Centre. As well, it borders on
St. Francis Catholic Secondary . It has two gymnasiums, an football/soccer /lacrosse /rugby union field, and abaseball diamond. As well, a recent addition to the school cafeteria has added a chapel area for morning worship services. Other facilities include computer labs, a seminar room, auto and woodworking shops, and a library.Uniform
Eden requires all students to wear the
school uniform . The uniform features a variety of pieces including grey dress pants, navy shorts, plaid kilts for females, short and long-sleeve white oxford shirts, a navy hoodie, and navy sweaters and sweater vests. White polo shirts were formerly available, but have since been discontinued. The remaining polos are still considered acceptable uniform attire. All uniform tops feature the Eden insignia on the left breast. Shoes must be black and socks must be solid navy, white, or black. The uniform is expected to be worn properly and in a neat manner. Shirts are to be tucked in as to allow the belt loops to be visible. Stains are considered impermissible, however, typically only large stains attract discipline.
The uniform policy is enforced by teachers and other staff by means of
infractions . Infractions are issued to students violating policy and must be signed by a parent and returned to the office. Infractions compile to warrant detentions, suspensions, and, in extreme cases, expulsion.Eden features non-uniform, or “dress-down,” days, during which students are not required to wear uniform attire. Students must, however, follow the dress code set out in the Eden Organizer/Handbook, which outlines impermissible clothes such as midriff exposing tops and shirts with inappropriate slogans.
Sports
Eden has many sports teams, including rugby, volleyball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, baseball, wrestling, rowing, and tennis.
Extracurricular activities
Eden also has a large, active
choir , a robotics team, and participates in cardboard boat racing. Students can participate in the Reach trivia program, and Model UN debating. Other groups include the Spirit Committee, Yearbook Club, and various chapel worship bands.Student Council
The current (2007-2008) student council includes co-presidents Vince Fazzari and Jayne Stewart. Student Council is also responsible for activities and outings, such as Spring Fling.
Spiritual Life Department
Eden continues to maintain its philosophy of alternative Christian education, through Bible classes for all grade 9 students, and morning chapel services for all students. The chapel program runs from 8:25AM to 8:50AM each morning. The Spiritual Life Department, which is responsible for these services, also plans and carries out activities and provides counseling for those students who want it. The Spiritual Life Department continues to be directly linked to the Mennonite Brethren Conference who employ the SLD team and appoint the members of the Eden Advisory Board.
