Born with no right leg and short fingers on her left hand, Melissa won gold, silver and bronze medals for Australia at both the Atlanta and Sydney Paralympics.[1]

Competitive swimming
In 1994, won a gold medal at the Victoria Commonwealth Games (Canada) in the 100m breaststroke.[2]
Swimming administration
Carlton has been involved with swimming administration, holding several positions in Tasmania including Programs and Marketing Coordinator for the Hobart Aquatic Centre, and Manager of Launceston Aquatic.[3]
Recognition
In 1997, she was awarded OAM for Service to Sport.[4] In 2009, she was named as one of 50 Tasmanians of influence by The Examiner.[3]
