Shariat Court

The decision to establish the shariat court for speedy and fair settlement of family disputes as well as issues affecting the Muslim community was announced recently[when?] in Mangalore by Kanthapuram[clarification needed] Aboobacker Musaliar, Sunni leader and general secretary of the Sunni Scholars’ Organisation of India.

A spokesperson quoted Musaliar as saying that the proposed court would be bound by existing laws and legal luminaries were being consulted for its formation. A committee would be formed soon for the purpose.[when?][1]

Recognition from Al-Azhar University

Al-Azhar University of Cairo has extended its recognition to courses taught by the Jamia Markazu Ssaqafati Sunniyya, disclosed by Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmad (AP Usthad)[clarification needed] secretary-general of the Markaz managing committee.[2]

Importance

The Markaz has attained a special place in the field of Islamic studies and scholastic pursuits in Kerala.[citation needed] The credit for this goes to the Aboobakar Musliar, known as Kanthapuram, who wields great influence among Barelvi Sunnis in South India. Recently, a branch of the Markaz has been established as the Jamia Nizamuddin at New Delhi.[3]
