Biography

Susan Holloway Scott was born Susan Holloway in Washington, D.C. and raised in northern New Jersey, where she graduated from Northern Valley Regional High School. Scott briefly attended art school before enrolling in Brown University, where she earned a B.A. in art history.[1] After finishing school, Scott worked in public relations, writing press releases and designing admissions materials for Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Bryn Mawr College.

Scott is married to musician Jay Scott and has two children. While on maternity leave after thebirth of her daughter, she decided to try writing a novel. Her first book, a historical romance called Steal the Stars, was published in 1992 by Harlequin under the pen name Miranda Jarrett. In the fifteen years since then, Scott has written over thirty historical romances for Harlequin and Pocket Books as Miranda Jarrett. These books are available in eleven languages in sixteen foreign countries, with over three and half million copies in print.[1]

In 2005, Scott decided to attempt "longer, more complex stories with more characters and actual history than could fit comfortably into a historical romance."[1] Her first attempt at more mainstream historical fiction, Duchess: A Novel of Sarah Churchill was published in 2006 under her real name.

Scott has served on the executive board of the Romance Writers of America.[1] She lives with her family near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1]
