Godspell-Original Australian Cast appeared in the first Australia production of the musical Godspell and was staged in Melbourne during 1972. It launched many notable careers including those of actors George Spartels and Christopher Pate, son of internationally known actor Michael Pate. Two popular Australian performers Colleen Hewett and Collette Mann also began their careers there. Mann enjoyed international exposure playing Doreen in Prisoner and is still a popular presence on TV and in Stage productions. Likewise Hewett's long career received a huge boost after she had a #1 hit in late 1971 with a song from the show, "Day By Day". However the single featured a big rock production by Ian Meldrum and is quite different to the version that appears on this album. The show later went to Sydney with a different cast.
