Quazal Technologies Inc. is a private company founded in 1998. It is backed by several investors, including Collar Capital, Fondaction, Caisse de Dépôt du Québec, Banque de Développement du Canada.

Similar to GameSpy and DemonWare, they provide on-line game-related services and software. In fact, Quazal is the leading supplier of multiplayer middleware with a community of over 200 network programmers. Its products enable on-line networking and matchmaking for multiplayer games. Quazal also provides Hosting for games developed with these products.

Origins of the Name

Quazal was constructed from two words: "Quetzalcóatl", the featured serpent god that created mankind according to Mesoamericans and "Quasar", which represents massive and celestial objects emitting exceptionally large amounts of energy.

Products

Quazal¹s products are used by the gaming industry’s publishers and developers to release some of the best games available on PlayStation® 2, PlayStation® 3, PlayStation® Personal, Xbox 360®, Windows® and MacOS X®.

In 1998, Quazal introduced network-aware C++ objects (duplicated objects) into their patented networking engine and API, now known as Net-Z. Thanks to a patented process, these objects, which automatically synchronize themselves, abstract the traditional packet/socket paradigm for game developers.

In 2004, Quazal introduced Rendez-Vous, a flexible and robust cross-platform SDK gaming lobbies. Rendez-Vous provides the ability to communication with a remote server that can create and organize on-line game matches directly from a game.

In 2006, Quazal introduced Spark!, its lobby-in-a-box SDK which derives from the original Rendez-Vous but adds more restrictive but easier-to-use logic that drives a user interface.
