- List of Spider-Slayers
Spider-Slayer Mark I
The first Spider-Slayer commissioned. J. Jonah Jameson uses this Spider-Slayer to stalk
Spider-Man acrossNew York City . After a long chase and battle, the device ensnares Spider-Man. He manages to tear out some of its circuitry, causing it to shut down. Spider-Man left his costume and puppeteered it to taunt Jameson and Spencer Smythe.Later, Peter Parker, while visiting
Spencer Smythe , is attacked by the Spider-Slayer Mark I. While in the clutches of the Slayer; before Smythe could deduce Peter's identity as Spider-Man, Peter manages to pull a jar of spiders out of his pockets. He claims that him holding these spiders was the reason the Slayer attacked him. Later, when theMolten Man had rampaged through Smythe's lab, the Slayer reactivates and attacks Peter. Peter managed to shut-down the Slayer though escape its grasp.Interestingly, the original Spider-Slayer was next seen among the robots and machines in the Reanimator's collection. Wolverine and Nova destroy the Spider-Slayer when the Reanimator attempts to use it against them.
Much later,
Alistair Smythe recreated the Spider-Slayer Mark I, along with several other Spider-Slayers and uses them to attack Spider-Man, who manages to destroy all the Slayers. The Spider-Slayer Mark I was seen among the various villains fought by Spider-Man on the large splash-page in "Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 500".
In "
She-Hulk " Vol 2, #9, (Aug 2006), it is revealed this model Slayer had been stored in J. Jonah Jameson's attic. During a dinner to get to know his new daughter-in-law, the She-Hulk herself, various issues come to a head. Jameson snaps and using the Slayer, battles the She-Hulk inside his own house, causing much damage. She-Hulk swiftly demolishes the robot.Powers and Abilities
The Spider-Slayer I was covered in a special chemical coating which stopped Spider-Man's webbing and clinging abilities from working against the Slayer. The Spider-Slayer I could also scale vertical surfaces and it also possessed several tentacles and coils which it could use to ensnare enemies. It was equipped with a special sensor device that homed in a target which possessed 'spider-impulses' though this is never fully explained. As a result, it will chase and ensare anything and anyone with the greatest amount of these characteristics, (which in most cases, is Spider-Man). The robot is basically humanoid in form and has a large monitor in the head which displays the operator, namely J. Jonah Jameson.
Appearances in Other Media
The Nineteen-Sixties Spider-Man animated series had a story that was a faithful adaptation of the first Spider-Slayer story, although the scientist was named Henry Smythe instead of Spencer Smythe.
Spider-Slayer Mark II
More humanoid than its predecessor, the Spider-Slayer Mark II was also more powerful as well. Spider-Man lures the Slayer into Smythe's lab. The sheer abundance of spiders in said lab causes the device to short-circuit.
The Spider-Slayer Mark II is among Alistair Smythe's army of Spider-Slayers which he uses against Spider-Man; The Spider-Slayer Mark II, along with the rest of the Spider-Slayers under Alistair's control were eventually destroyed by Spider-Man.
Powers and Abilities
The Spider-Slayer II possessed super-strength and like the Spider-Slayer I, it was covered in a chemical coating which caused it to be almost frictionless, meaning Spider-Man or his webbing couldn't stick to it. The Spider-Slayer II could also discharge an energy beam from its head called the "Destructo-Beam". Like its predecessor, it is remotely controlled and has the monitor which displays its operator.
Spider-Slayer Mark III
The Spider-Slayer Mark III was in the shape of a large spider; though the Spider-Slayer Mark III was powerful, Spider-Man managed too clog its web-shooters with his own and wrestle it to the ground. Unfortunately, the Slayer managed to knock Spider-Man unconscious; leaving the scene, the Slayer proceeded to steal some computer equipment for Smythe.
Upon invading Smythe's lab, Spider-Man managed to rewire the Spider-Slayer Mark III so the next time Smythe activated it, the Spider-Slayer Mark III exploded.
Another Spider-Slayer Mark III was used by
Alistair Smythe against Spider-Man; This Spider-Slayer Mark III was eventually destroyed by Spider-Man, along with the rest of Alistair's revived Spider-Slayers.Powers and Abilities
This Spider-Slayer was capable of utilizing a built-in web-shooter of its own, meaning it could ensnare enemies much like Spider-Man; it also possessed a large retractable blade which it could use as a weapon, it could also utilize this blade to cut Spider-Man's webbing. Like previous Spider-Slayers, this one was also covered in a non-stick coating meaning Spider-Man couldn't use his webbing effectively against it.
Spider-Slayer Mark IV
Basically a gigantic version of Spider-Slayer Mark III which was piloted by Smythe from the inside; the Spider-Slayer Mark IV managed to capture Spider-Man by ensnaring him in a web. Brought to Smythe's base, Spider-Man was left dangling up-side down while Smythe was directing his men to rob a bank. Breaking free, Spider-Man was attacked by the Spider-Slayer Mark IV. Without Smythe to pilot it though the Spider-Slayer Mark IV was much weaker, the Slayer was temporarily defeated when Spider-Man clogged its web-shooters and shut it down internally.
Defeating Smythe's henchmen who were robbing various banks, Spider-Man was once again attacked by the Spider-Slayer Mark IV, which was now piloted by Smythe. With little effort Spider-Man, defeated the device, it was revealed that while inside the machine, Spider-Man had messed with its circuitry, causing it too malfunction and shut-down in battle.
The Spider-Slayer Mark IV later ambushed Spider-Man, who was weakened from previous battles, as well as his own recent doubts- following a battle with the Jackal- over whether he was himself or his clone. However, when ensnared by the Slayer, Spider-Man realised- given that he instinctively thought of
Mary Jane Watson while the clone would still loveGwen Stacy - that he was the real one, and subsequently managed to break free and smash open the Slayer's cockpit, knocking Smythe out.The Spider-Slayer Mark IV was later revived by Alistair Smythe and used against Spider-Man; who subsequently destroyed it along with the rest of Alistair's Spider-Slayer army.
Powers and Abilities
Possessing the same abilities as Spider-Slayer Mark III, except on a larger scale, the Spider-Slayer Mark IV could also emit
Ethyl Chloride spray to disorient victims.Spider-Slayer(s) Mark V
Several robots in the form of the Kingpin, Sandman and the Vulture; these robots were sent by Smythe to weaken and psychologically disorientate Spider-Man. When each robot was defeated it would explode, minute acid capsules throughout their bodies leaving no trace of their presence, and thus leaving Spider-Man doubting his own sanity. After all three robots were defeated, Smythe attacked Spider-Man in the Spider-Slayer Mark IV.
Powers and Abilities
Each Spider-Slayer Mark V had somewhat weakened version of the powers of the villain the were based on. Each robot also possessed super-strength.
Spider-Slayer Mark VI
The first Spider-Slayer not created by Spencer Smythe, the Spider-Slayer Mark VI was created by Dr. Marla Madison and J. Jonah Jameson. Tracking down Spider-Man, the Spider-Slayer Mark VI engaged him in battle, as well as Will o' the Wisp who was at the scene at the time. Though powerful, this Spider-Slayer was destroyed when Spider-Man caused a statue of
Prometheus to collapse on top of it, crushing it.Despite the fact that it was not created by his father, Alistair Smythe had a duplicate of the Spider-Slayer Mark VI in his Spider-Slayer army. This new Spider-Slayer Mark VI was destroyed by Spider-Man. along with the rest of Alistair's Spider-Slayer army.
Powers and Abilities

The Spider-Slayer Mark VI also possessed super-strength, a web-shooter and a laser-cannon which shot "Impulse Beams".
Spider-Slayer Mark VII
Used by a dying Spencer Smythe, the Spider-Slayer Mark VII proved to be Smythe's most powerful creation. Battling Spider-Man atop the
Empire State Building , the Spider-Slayer Mark VII proved to be more than a match for Spider-Man. It was only after Spider-Man knocked the Spider-Slayer Mark VII and himself off the building that it was destroyed, plummeting at extreme speed to the ground below.Another Spider-Slayer Mark VII was apart of Alistair Smythe's Spider-Slayer army; unlike the original Spider-Slayer Mark VII, this new one proved to be somewhat pathetic in comparison, being easily destroyed by Spider-Man.
Powers and Abilities
The Spider-Slayer Mark VII possessed a large amount of weaponry and abilities; it possessed a web-cannon, laser-guns, metallic tentacles and coils and the ability to stick to surfaces. It was also created out of an extremely durable metal (possibly secondary adamantium) which rendered almost immune to physical damage. Like the Spider-Slayer Mark VI, the Spider-Slayer Mark VII could be controlled mentally.
Spider-Slayer Mark VIII
Though more of a battleship than a robot, the Spider-Slayer Mark VIII was created by Spencer Smythe's son,
Alistair Smythe . Using the Spider-Slayer Mark VIII to kidnapAunt May and Anna Watson, Smythe also attempted to use the device to kill Mary-Jane Watson, who he, somewhat ridiculously, believed to be Spider-Man (To buy time, she claimed to use an exo-suit created by aliens). Engaging the Spider-Slayer Mark VIII in battle, Spider-Man at first tried to short-circuit the ship by causing it to crash into a water tower. When this failed, Spider-Man managed to cause the ship to become entangled in some power-lines, which succeeded in causing the ship to short-out.An unmanned version of the Spider-Slayer Mark VIII was later used as a part of Alistair's Spider-Slayer army. This new Spider-Slayer Mark VIII was destroyed by Spider-Man along with the rest of Alistair's Spider-Slayer.

bulldozer . Alistair was forced to retreat from battle to repair the Spider-Slayer Mark IX.Managing to track down Spider-Man once again, Alistair managed to severely beat him and almost drown him using the Spider-Slayer Mark IX. It was only when Alistair attempted to kill Mary-Jane that an enraged Spider-Man managed to tear apart the Spider-Slayer Mark IX and tear Alistair out of its cockpit.
Alistair later rebuilt the Spider-Slayer Mark IX and used it as a soldier in his Spider-Slayer army. The Spider-Slayer Mark IX, along with the rest of Alistair's Spider-Slayer army was later destroyed by Spider-Man.
