Necrobiology

Necrobiology

The word is derived from the Greek νεκρό meaning "death", βìο meaning "life", and λόγος meaning "the study of".

"The term cell necrobiology is introduced to comprise the life processes associated with morphological, biochemical, and molecular changes which predispose, precede, and accompany cell death, as well as the consequences and tissue response to cell death. The term combines necros (‘‘death’’) and bios (‘‘life’’), which on first thought appears contradictory. However, in preparation for- and in the course of- cell death, a complex cascade of biological processes, typical of cell life, takes place." Cytometry in cell necrobiology: analysis of apoptosis and accidental cell death (necrosis).

In the video game Splatterhouse (2010 video game), Necrobiology is fictionalized as a scientific study in which dead matter can be reanimated.
