St Albans Secondary College is a 7-12 secondary school located at St Albans, Victoria, Australia, in Melbourne's western suburbs. It is a school that is predominantly filled with vietnamese and chinese. In the year 2007, 5 students from this school gained a placing at Melbourne High School and its sister school- Mac Robertson. St Albans Secondary College was chosen as the school for the Minister of Education, the Honourable Bronwyn Pike, to launch this year‛s On Track VCE school leavers‛ results.

The On Track report shows the percentage of students from each school going on to university, TAFE, apprenticeships and employment after they complete Year 12. According to a representative from the Department of Education, the results for our

school are outstanding, being better than state-wide figures in every aspect of the data.

The State Treasurer, John Lenders, and Bill Shorten, Federal MP for Maribyrnong, spent a couple of hours recently with student leaders and staff discussing the state budget, international aid, the art of representing your voters, speech making, politics, and the state of buildings and facilities in many schools in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Mr Lenders was taken on a tour of the school to show him the upgrading projects we are currently working on, but also to highlight the need for significant extra funding to modernise facilities.

So what are our Year 12‛s of 2007 doing now?

48% are enrolled at university

36% are enrolled in TAFE courses

9% are doing an apprenticeship or traineeship

3% are employed

1% are looking for work

3% have deferred their course

Former students Marijana Knezevic (Project Management, RMIT) Le-Quyen Le (New Generation Environments, Melbourne University), Nermina Mustafic (Orthoptic and Opthalmic Sciences, Latrobe University) and Stephanie Wan (Legal & Dispute Studies, RMIT) who met with the minister to discuss their courses and the pathways advice they received whilst at school

It was a round-table meeting with a difference when St Albans Secondary College students met local traders recently. The meeting signalled the beginning of a unique partnership between the school and the St Albans Business Group. While the students will get a fly-on-the-wall impression of how traders run their regular meetings, the traders will benefit from the end result: a traders business directory compiled by 22

students in Year 10 and VCAL. A core group of students has been interviewing local business people preparing the directory, which is expected to be finished by the end of the year. The partnership between the traders‛ group and the school has evolved through the Beacon program which helps build relationships between students communities and industry.

In the St Albans Secondary College community, we believe that each person has the right to teach or learn in a safe, caring and co-operative environment in which everybody can enjoy self-respect. Individuals are responsible for their own actions, and should respect the rights of others in regard to their person, space and property.

All members of the College community are expected to follow a Code of Conduct that supports a positive learning environment.

The high standard of education delivered in all areas of St Albans Secondary College is a tribute to the dedication and skills of our teaching and support staff - all of whom take collective pride in and inspiration from the achievements of their students.

Innovative teaching and a staff commitment to ongoing professional development allow St Albans to deliver an exceptional and fulfilling educational experience.

The best students are probable Vincent Lam and his sister Ivanna Lam. However there are those who have left who exceed these people- those who gained entrace into selective entry government schools.
