IB Program

Hinkley is home to the district's only International Baccalaureate program. It is the only school in the United States to offer an IB African History course [http://denver.yourhub.com/AURORANORTH/Stories/Education/School-News/Story~22717.aspx IB Program Offers Students a Challenge] . Accessed January 28, 2007.] , and one of only a handful to offer an IB Human Rights course [http://www.ibo.org/ibworld/documents/feb03.pdf Enthusiastic Response to IB Human Rights Course] Accessed January 28, 2007.] .

In order to ease the 150 hour community service requirement of the IB Program, a student organization known as the " [http://www.clearthelandmines.org Landmines Task Force] " was created. The group raises money and awareness regarding the international landmine problem, donating through the United Nations Association's Adopt-A-Minefield to help eradicate landmines in Mozambique. To date, the group has raised over $20,000 [http://www.aps.k12.co.us/communications/releases/2006-07/28.htm APS IB Students Walk to Eliminate Landmines] Accessed January 28, 2007.] . The program was started by IB HL African History teacher Christine Sundberg in the 2003/2004 school year.
