The other schools areHeritage High School ,Salem High School , and theRockdale Career Academy . It hosts Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology within which is sponsored byGeorgia Tech . RMSST is a renowned school and was recognized in January 2007 for having the most math awards in Georgia, and placed 6th in the nation recently on an Internet-based math contest. The school's mascot is the
Bulldog . There are approximately 1,600 students enrolled.Athletics
Rockdale County High School is a part of the GHSA in Region 8-AAAA. The athletic teams have worked hard to get to the point they're at today. The teams have gone through many phases of good and bad seasons, winning several state championships in basketball, soccer and wrestling. Collectively, athletic groups such as competition cheerleading, cross country, and basketball have collected their fair share of awards. Rockdale's soccer teams have held a tradition of excellence. Both the girls and boys teams have attended state playoffs nearly every year for the past 10 years.
Fine Arts
Rockdale is heavily involved with and supportive of the arts. It is a
Grammy School of Excellence and strives to create superb masterpieces of theater and music. The school has won many awards at Regional and State One-Act competitions. The literary team often places high in the region and in 2003 won the regional title. The boys quartet went on from this to win the state title. In 2007, the Advanced Musical Theater Class took Ragtime to One Act Competition, and won first place. After winning 1st place at regional, they later went on to take 3rd place at state, beating performing arts schools.Magnet School
Rockdale County High school is home to the prestigious Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. It was opened in 2000, to provide a rigorous high school curriculum for the youth in Rockdale County. The school focuses on the fields of mathematics, sciences, and technology. There is no Magnet School building; the Magnet School is within the Rockdale County High School. However, Magnet students are enrolled in selective classes comprising of only Magnet students (approximately 10-15 students per class period, as opposed to Rockdale County High School's average class size of 30). The school is highly competitive and the courses are set on a college-level curriculum. The classes exact the most out of the students; many consider them to be more challenging than standard
Advanced Placement courses at other schools. To enter the school you must apply and be accepted. This process is very tough because the school only accepts approximately 50 students a year, and generally far more than that apply. To date, the school has had widespread success. The averageSAT score is well above 1300 out of 1600. The college scholarship amount exceeds 3 million annually. In 2005 it was actually greater than the other 3 high schools in the county's total, which is quite astounding considering Magnet has 30 students and the other high schools have close to 300 graduating. More recently, honors include 13 perfect math scores on the SAT and 9 perfect math ACT scores. Each year the school sends around 10 students to
Metz, France to aid high school students with their own science fair projects. This is through a partnership withGeorgia Tech , specifically theirGeorgia Tech Lorraine campus.References
