- Munif Mohammed Abou Rish
-
Munif Mohammed Abou Rish was a Palestinian/Australian journalist, who in 1974 planned to assassinate Bob Hawke, the Federal President of the Australian Labor Party, who later became Prime Minister of Australia. He also planned to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Australia, and several prominent Jewish figures in Australia.[1]
Palestinians living in Australia gave out fake passports to members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine responsible for aircraft hijackings and attacks on Jewish institutions, for the purposes of an attack on Australian soil.[1]
In 1974, Abu Rish left Australia and planned to return to carry out the assassinations the following year, but he was killed by Israeli security forces.[1]
