The battle

Margrave Luitpold of Bavaria built up his army and attempted to score a decisive victory against the Magyars, who threatened many countries in Central Europe. The European army included more than 100 000 soldiers. Árpád's army the Hungarian was only around 30-35 000. The Bavarian army, consisting of three battle groups, was crushed below Pressburg Castle (Pozsony Castle), and a large part of Luitpold's army was destroyed. The Bavarian casualties included the Margrave, three bishops and 19 barons.

Aftermath

After the Battle, the Magyars occupied present-day eastern Austria up to the River Enns, began pillaging the surrounding regions, and destroyed Great Moravia which had already been plagued by inner instability. The Magyar threat persisted until 955 when Otto I the Great won a decisive victory at the Battle of Lechfeld, which brought internal stability to German lands. However after the battle (907) Germans couldn't attack the Hungarian Kingdom for 100 years.
