Fort Halifax (Pennsylvania)

Fort Halifax, was located along the Susquehanna River near the present day borough of Halifax, Pennsylvania. It was a temporary stronghold in northern Dauphin County, Pennsylvania from 1756 to 1757, during the time of the French and Indian War. The fort was erected by Col. William Clapham, with the order of Governor Morris, and guarded by a garrison of the Pennsylvania colonial militia.cite web| url=http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/1pa/1picts/frontierforts/ff1.html| year=1896| title=Report of the Commission to located the Site of the Frontier Forts of Pennsylvania|first=Busch| last=Clarence M.| publisher=State Printer of Pennsylvania| accessdate=2007-01-26] The fort was a subpost of Fort Augusta, which was the largest of the Provincial forts. It was a 160-feet square log stockade with four bastions. It was dismantled in 1757 and its garrison was moved to Fort Hunter.cite web| url=http://www.geocities.com/naforts/panorcentral.html| year=2007| title=Fort of Pennsylvania|first=| last=| publisher=American Forts Network| accessdate=2007-01-26]
