World Beer Cup

The World Beer Cup, known as "The Olympics of Beer Competition" [ [http://www.beertown.org/events/wbc/competition/history.html World Beer Cup - Competition History ] ] , is one of several major beer competitions. [ [http://www.allaboutbeer.com/features/beercomp.html All About Beer: Beer Championships ] ] It was founded by Association of Brewers President Charlie Papazian.

The World Beer Cup is held every two years. The first competition, held in 1996 in Vail, Colorado, featured 600 beers from 250 breweries. The 2008 Cup featured 2,864 entries from 644 breweries from 58 countries. As of 2006, awards are given in 91 categories.

The 2008 World Beer Cup was held in San Diego, California, from April 14 - 19, 2008.
