History
The suburb was created from a
wetland area mainly during the 1980s when the mostly man-madePatterson River was dredged to drain the former Carrum Carrum Swamp. Patterson Lakes Post Office opened on 1 April 1986. Citation

Patterson Lakes is serviced by a large shopping centre and restaurants, including a new supermarket called “The Glade”.There is also an outrigger club, pony club, football ground, tennis clubs, cricket ground, marina (largest in Victoria), boat ramp, fishing charters, luxury personalized charters, BMX club and track, motorcycle club and track and a canoe club.
