Patterson Lakes is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is in the Local Government Area of the City of Kingston.

Patterson Lakes is located 35 km south-east of the Melbourne central business district on the Mornington Peninsula.

History

The suburb was created from a wetland area mainly during the 1980s when the mostly man-made Patterson River was dredged to drain the former Carrum Carrum Swamp. Patterson Lakes Post Office opened on 1 April 1986. Citation

] The southern side of the river is characterised by a system of lakes and canals providing properties with a water frontage and the possibility of a boat mooring.

Facilities

Patterson Lakes is serviced by a large shopping centre and restaurants, including a new supermarket called “The Glade”.There is also an outrigger club, pony club, football ground, tennis clubs, cricket ground, marina (largest in Victoria), boat ramp, fishing charters, luxury personalized charters, BMX club and track, motorcycle club and track and a canoe club.

Education

Patterson Lakes Primary School is the government public school operated in Patterson Lakes
Patterson River Secondary College is the government secondary school operated just outside of Patterson Lakes, close to Seaford.

Transport

Patterson Lakes is serviced by the Carrum railway station on the Frankston line operated by Connex Melbourne.Access to the area by road is from the Nepean Highway, East Link, Frankston Freeway or the Mornington Peninsula Freeway.

Bus services around Patterson Lakes are operated by Grenda's Bus Services and Moorabbin Transit.

Trams do not operate in this area of Melbourne.

Fame

The filming at Kath Day-Knight and Kel Knight's "townhouse" (in the fictional suburb of Fountain Lakes), in the Australian comedy television series "Kath & Kim", is shot in Patterson Lakes.

John Howard, when Prime Minister of Australia, visited Patterson Lakes Primary School to speak on their new radio station, as did Bert Newton, and the hosts of former radio show Get This, Tony Martin and Ed Kavalee

Patterson Lakes is also home to NBA superstar Andrew Bogut and his family who own a double-storey property on the water.
