Riverdale Review

Riverdale Review

The "Riverdale Review" is a weekly newspaper serving the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City. It is published by the Metro North Media Group, which also publishes the weekly "Bronx Press Review".

The "Riverdale Review" was initially launched in 1993 by publisher Andrew Wolf as an alternative to the "Riverdale Press", the other local paper. There are several differences the casual observer can note between the publications. A few of these include: while the" Press" costs $.75, the "Review" is free; the "Press" tends toward taking a more liberal position on local and city politics than the "Review"; the "Review" is in tabloid format; the "Review" has a weekly political cartoon. Both newspapers are widely read in the community and influence local debate.

The "Riverdale Review" also takes a lead in the community in pushing for the improvement of local public education. The paper was the first to conceive and advocate for the idea of expanding the local middle school, M.S. 141, to include a high school in order to attract and keep parents of teen-age students in the neighborhood. The efforts were successful, and in 1999, the school added grades 9-12 and was renamed the Riverdale Kingsbridge Academy.

Publisher Andrew Wolf also writes a column focusing primarily on city education issues for the "New York Sun".
