List of British Army regiments (1994)

This is a list of British Regular Army regiments in the aftermath of the defence cuts of the Options for Change defence white paper in 1991.

Cavalry

Household Cavalry Regiment and Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment

**at the request of HM The Queen, The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals 'united', rather than amalgamated, so that they could retain their separate regimental identities

**formed by the amalgamation of The Queen's Own Hussars and The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars
*9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales's)
*The King's Royal Hussars
**formed by the amalgamation of The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own) and 14th/20th King's Hussars
*The Light Dragoons
**formed by the amalgamation of 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) and 15th/19th The King's Royal Hussars
*The Queen's Royal Lancers
**formed by the amalgamation of 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers and 17th/21st Lancers

The Royal Tank Regiment

*1st Royal Tank Regiment
**amalgamated with 4th Royal Tank Regiment without loss of title
*2nd Royal Tank Regiment
**amalgamated with 3rd Royal Tank Regiment without loss of title

Infantry

The infantry in 1994 was divided into six divisions for administrative purposes:
*Household Division: Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards, Scots Guards, Irish Guards, Welsh Guards.
*Scottish Division: Royal Scots, King's Own Scottish Borderers, Royal Highland Fusiliers, Black Watch, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).
*Queen's Division: Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Royal Anglian Regiment.
*King's Division: Green Howards, Duke of Wellington's Regiment, Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, Queen's Lancashire Regiment, King's Own Royal Border Regiment, King's Regiment.
*Prince of Wales's Division: Cheshire Regiment, Royal Welch Fusiliers, Royal Regiment of Wales, Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment, Devonshire and Dorset Regiment, Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, Staffordshire Regiment.
*Light Division: Light Infantry, Royal Green Jackets.
