It is located at 93 Main Street (also NY 32 and 299) in the village's downtown section. The old stone house that originally served as the library has since been added on to, and much of the library's collection and its main circulation desk are housed in this new wing. It has been on the
National Register of Historic Places since 2004.A week before
Halloween in 2007, a possiblehaunting was disovered. A librarian opening the building in the morning found the door had been left ajar. He reviewed tape from thesurveillance camera until he found, at 3:30 a.m., a mysterious smudge moving across the room toward the door. The library staff inspected the camera but could not find any explanation for the smudge.cite news|last=Horrigan|first=Jeremiah|title=Mystery haunts Elting Library|url=http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080325/NEWS/803250312/-1/NEWS|publisher="Times-Herald Record "|date=2008-03-25|accessdate=2008-03-25]References
