Club career
Ivanovs has played all his career at Metalurgs where he made his debut in 2001. On 19 July 2006 Ivanovs scored a penalty for Metalurgs in their 1–1 draw away at Kazakhstan club, FC Aktobe in the UEFA Champions League 2006-07 first qualifying round.[1] On 16 August 2007 he scored for Metalurgs in their 3–2 win over Swedish club, AIK in their 2007-08 UEFA Cup second qualifying round match.[2]
On 26 August 2009 Ivanovs signed a three year contract with Ajax Cape Town FC.[3]
In July 2010 he left Ajax, signing a two-year contract with the Turkcell Super League club Sivasspor. He debuted in Sivasspor jersey in a match against Galatasaray S.K. (football team). Ivanovs played all 90 minutes and Sivasspor won the match 2–1, and he collected a yellow card.
In July 2011 Ivanovs left Sivasspor, signing a contract with the Azerbaijan Premier League club FK Baku.
International career
Ivanovs first call up to the national team came in June 2003 when he only 19 years old when he was named by Latvia coach Aleksandrs Starkovs in a 24 man squad for the Baltic Cup held in Estonia.[4] On 20 May 2005 Ivanovs played for the Latvia Under-21 team in a 1–1 draw with Lithuania.[5] His next call up to the Latvia national team came on 4 August 2005 when he was picked by Latvia coach Jurijs Andrejevs for the Latvian squad for the 2006 FIFA World cup qualifying match at home to Russia on 17 August.[6] On 3 September he scored in Latvia U21's 3–1 win over Estonia U-21's[6]
