Joseph Berlioz Randriamihaja had the best performance for Madagascar at the Athens games when he set a new Malagasy record in the opening round of the 110 metre hurdles. Had he been able to repeat this performance in the second round, he would have made the semifinal, but he could not, and ended up in 23rd place.
