Powell Flutes

Verne Q. Powell Flutes Inc. has been a leading producer of professional quality flutes and piccolos since 1927. The company produces handmade musical instruments in wood, silver, platinum, and gold.

History

Verne Q. Powell

In 1916 in Boston, Verne Powell, son of a jeweler who taught himself flute-making, joined the Wm. S. Haynes Company to make wooden flutes and piccolos. In 1927, after an unsuccessful attempt to purchase the Haynes company, Powell created Verne Q. Powell Flutes, Incorporated. [ [http://alpha1.fmarion.edu/goferjoe/powella.htm Verne Q. onaré Winds

In 2003, Powell Inc. created a division called Sonaré Winds which combines an Asian-made body with an American hand-made headjoint for its series of flutes; creating less expensive flutes yet maintaining the high-quality sound of Powell flutes. The newer series features a handmade Powell headjoint with a flute body made in Germany.

In 2005, Sonaré Winds created a line of trumpets with partner Cliff Blackburn, which are made in Germany but has the leadpipe and mouthpiece assembled in the United States. [ [http://www.sonarewinds.com/trumpets.asp Sonaré Trumpets] ]
