Verne Q. Powell
In 1916 in
Boston , Verne Powell, son of a jeweler who taught himself flute-making, joined the Wm. S. Haynes Company to make wooden flutes and piccolos. In 2003, Powell Inc. created a division called Sonaré Winds which combines an Asian-made body with an American hand-made headjoint for its series of flutes; creating less expensive flutes yet maintaining the high-quality sound of Powell flutes. The newer series features a handmade Powell headjoint with a flute body made in Germany.
In 2005, Sonaré Winds created a line of
