This is a list of cities, organized by country, that applied to host the Olympic Games but were eventually not chosen by the International Olympic Committee.
Montreal has had the most unsuccessful candidacies with eight. Five of its six Summer Olympic Games bids have been passed over, while all three of its Winter Olympic Games attempts have been unsuccessful. Detroit, Michigan has had the most candidacies without success, failing in all seven of its attempts to host the Summer Olympics.
