- Bossier City, LA Tornado
The Bossier City, LA Tornado is a
tornado that occurred during the early morning hours ofDecember 3 ,1978 inLouisiana . An F4] tornado touched down on the eastern bank of the Red River inBossier City, Louisiana . The twister cut a path a convert|.5|mi|km|1 wide and nearly convert|4|mi|km|1 long through the heart of Bossier City. Extensive damage was done to the Heart of Bossier Shopping Center, the Airline Drive corridor, the now-defunct Highway 80 entertainment district, and the Meadowview and Swan Lake Subdivisions. The only two deaths to occur in Bossier City were two young girls who were killed when a car was thrown through their bedroom wall. City officials including Mayor Anding noted that while warnings were nearly unknown due to most residents being asleep in bed, the death toll may have been so low due to the fact that most of the hardest hit places were businesses and schools and were empty at that time of night. For example, Meadowview Elementary School's south wing was completely leveled and anyone in the building (hallway or not) would likely have been crushed under the brick structure.Tornado table
